Perhaps you still know the game “City-Country-River”! The alphabet is counted down, someone says "Stop", and it is the letter with which the city, land or river was to be named. The first person to know all the terms in this letter wins. I played this game several times with work colleagues and it was amazing how much fun we had. At that time, I didn't even know that I was playing with a learning method.

Today, after some research on ABC lists, I am a little wiser. I found these lists to be great to incorporate into a lesson at school. If the teacher wishes to introduce a new topic, he or she can ask the class to write an ABC list (see list below). The teacher gives the topic, then the children write down all the terms that come to mind on the topic after the corresponding letters on the list. They start with the letter whose term comes to mind. You don't have to write them in order. Several terms can be written behind the same letter. For example, children have three minutes. The children are then allowed to exchange terms with each other. However, a term can only be included in the list if the child can also explain that term. In this way, children learn from each other and the teacher recognizes the prior knowledge that children already have on this topic. All he has to do is explain what the children don't yet know. The children actually learned the subject without realizing they were learning it.

ABC lists help us think in categories, come up with ideas, prepare a lesson, talk, etc., solve a problem and much more. Just use a template like the image below!

Here too, repetitions are important. From the eighth time a topic is repeated, our brain realizes that this topic is important to us. Then it sends us thoughts and knowledge from our subconscious.

The alphabet on the left side vertically one below the other. At the top left it says: Date. There is a bar below where you can write the subject. At the top right is the ASOU logo, leiere wéi ee liert.
